I play with the Piece destinations (valid moves and premoves) turned on because it helps me visualize the moves.
Unfortunately it has happened a few times that after clicking on a piece to consider candidate moves I ended up moving the piece unwillingly, while I was trying to deselect the piece (the only way to cancel the selection is to click on the piece again). In short time controls and with, say, a queen, it can be quite tricky as all squares around the queen are usually available.
It would be extremely hand to have the piece deselected also by clicking outside the board.
