When I payed C.C. in 1960s & 1970s in the ladder organised by Barry Wood's 'Chess' magazine, each player was allowed some days break in case of illness, travel etc. If someone is ill, they cannot be expected to meet their C.C. obligations, can they!
I have played over 2250 CC games at lichess, and am generally v satisfied with it but in my opinion this is a weakness in the system. Allowing e.g. five to seven days break in each game would not permit systematic misuse i.e. gaming the system . As things stand, if I had e.g. flu or an accident, I might lose all 25-35 games that I play at any one times with a three day time-limit.
