Frustration

I love chess, and Lichess has a great format.

However, it blows my mind at the community sometime...

Utter lack of congeniality - basically a one and done with many of these players.

They play one game and instantly leave, win or lose - to simply play another opponent.

I rarely find a congenial opponent - one who values actual discussion and friendship. Sometimes you get a rematch, which is also nice - and if I have time, I accept a rematch.

It's even gotten to the time where I've deleted the app a few times - only to reinstall after a break from the players.

Whatever happened to the day when chess players were polite? This often feels more like a cheap thrill...and I guess that works for many players on here.
The times have changed...
However , you can find both rematches and communication , if you keep searching.
Why does it blow your mind? Welcome to the millennial generation. Also; referring to a bunch of kids that don't care about you or your opinions as a community is laughable.

Actual discussion and friendship should be sought after in real life, not the internet. The cheap thrills that you feel is due to the casuals here, not true & passionate players.

It seems like you're experiencing some nostalgia and have an inner craving for the good ole' days - so I understand what you're going through. PM me if you want an E-hug.

Edited: After the millenial post below, I decided to remove my post. What a troll.
While you might be blowing it out of proportion, I've had times when I tried to have some friendly talk during the game only to have my opponent start bashing me, saying I'm acting like a Trump supporter for joking about the opening being weird (wtf??) and just sling slurs at me for no apparent reason, as if my friendly or neutral comments were really offensive.

I don't know, are these just stupid kids?
You guys are all weak. The millennial generation is the greatest generation to ever exist. While your generation strives to relive its glory days via the recapturing of traditional values our country and everything we have built in the post modern era is being destroyed i.e. the election of Trump who had 80% of his votes from people aged 40+. This is not an isolated incident trapped within the confines of the US or lichess. Grow up, or on the contrary, it would be better if you gave up your "old ways" and embrace the power of the greatest generation mankind has ever seen. We are not here to make friends. If your looking for friends go on tinder. We are here to play chess, no matter your rating, strength or time control everyone here has the same goal. Humiliate your opponent. Destroy them. Embarrass them. Kick them while there down and take every single point from their garbage play. That is the purpose of chess. It is not to have fun, play the game you love and meet some new people. If your into that maybe try something more your speed like bridge. Chess is a game based on the principles of war. Its kill or be killed. There are no manners. It is do what must be done to win. This is the philosophy of the new age and the post modern era. It has been this way since post WWII so even old people know this. Hugging and striking a conversation is something that died when the world lost its innocence to fascism, racism and hate during the war. Soon the age of the computer will begin. I am no conspiracy theorist who believes in a terminator style future, but AI is slowly destroying jobs and reaching the threshold necessary for autonomous thought. Who knows what the future holds. Hopefully you can read my post without taking a break. You oldies might need to grab your reading glasses again. Not to be rude or anything, but this polite "hug hug" style to life is embarrassing. When you are ready for a real battle and develop a backbone then come back to this site.

BTW if you want a real battle come play me.
DM me when you want to play.
For you oldies out there DM stands for Direct message/Private message.

Cheers!
A millennial
"Whatever happened to the day when chess players were polite?"

Is publicly whining about people not wanting to talk to you, and using this to create some sort of victim mentality and draw attention to yourself, something you consider polite?

Do you have such a void of personal relationships in your life that not getting a response from people you don't know, who may or may not even see or understand your comment, bothers you this much?
I expected snarky comments from many of you, and you provided just as such. You actually confirmed what I was saying.

If you have a problem that I voice my opinion, then block me. Saves me the trouble of having to deal with you over the board.

No, it's not nostalgia - it's called common decency. Something lacking in a generation bent on instant gratification.
As for the posts on the "good ol' days", people today still hold doors open for people and shake hands. You would know it if your head was out of your rear.

Cheers!
