Why we should pause to think during our games

ChessAnalysisPuzzleTacticsStrategy
In the words of IM Levy Rozman (Gotham Chess): Why are you starting a rapid 15+10 game and playing like you gotta catch a plane?

I'm sure if you've watched that video where he said it, you laughed at those pogs and fell off your chair. But look at the mirror! Are you doing the same? Are you playing a 3+0 game and being up 2 minutes after 50 moves? Well, I'm sure you've been there before. If you're scared about getting low on time, then play a rapid or classical game! 5 Rapid games will make you improve more than 30 blitz games as you can think more. Let's have a look at this example:

Here, Eric was on stream playing two games at once. To my shock, when the CM played Rxf5, Eric looked at the board and took the rook and said, "Time to grind this out!"

The chat pretty much when crazy screaming about the missed mate in 1. Eric spent a whopping 0.3 seconds on this move!!! I am pretty sure the chat was booing Eric. But the real question is, wouldn't chat do the same thing on 15 seconds and panic, not thinking. Of course they would! This is why we should play longer time controls to think and spot more tactics. You will probably have a higher rapid/ classical rating than your blitz. If you are on tilt, don't continue playing. Take a break, relax. Come back a day later, you'll go back up.

Lastly, please like this blog so I will write more. Signing off now, bye!
