On the chess opening
http://en.lichess.org/training/opening/36the move b3 is treated as "giving your opponent the advantage".
Can someone explain that to me? I tried continuing against Stockfish level 7 and didn't get any immediate troubles:
http://en.lichess.org/RojYLdgYOpenings aren't my strong suit, but to me it seems that b3 doesn't help development. The DSB wants to go to d2.
Bd2 is one of the "best" moves .
The b3 idea is to defend a2 for a moment in case if White Queen is pushed away with b5
In that position you should love to gift away your a-pawn. You get a lot of compensation after b5, Qc2:
1. Your opponents c-pawn gets ultra week after b5.
2. Your development is way better than your opponent's because of his multiple queen-moves.
3. After e4 (and later e5) and Bd3 your opponent needs to take more time to castle because of the threat on h7.
4. Your pieces are better: Rooks on the c-file, pawns in the center, no piece is misplaced.
All in all I really wouldn't take the pawn as the black player. And because of that it's probably not the best move to take a tempi for that matter if non of your kingside pieces are developed.
